Interstitial Fluid Pressure and Hydraulic Conductivity in Solid Tumors: Introducing an In-Vitro Method for Measuring the Hydraulic Conductivity of Tumor Tissue

چکیده

Background: Resistance against drug delivery is a challenge in oncology, preventing the development of optimal therapeutic outcomes. This has been related to group hostile biophysical characteristics tumor microenvironment. Among them, elevated interstitial fluid pressure (IFP) solid tumors identified as barrier for transport. Also, hydraulic conductivity (K) stroma strongly correlates with IFP. However, values K human cancer tissues are quite limited. Here, we developed novel vitro setup that allows measure clinical samples. Moreover, dependency IFP over was investigated via numerical method.

A method for measuring hydraulic conductivity and embolism in xylem

Hydraulic conductivity of the xylem is computed as the quotient of mass fiow rate and pressure gradient. Measurements on excised plant stems can be difficult to interpret because of timedependent reductions in fiow rate, and because of variable degrees of embolism. Using Acer saccharum Marsh, stems, we found that certain perfusing solutions including dilute fixatives (e.g. 0.05% formaldehyde) a...

Interstitial hydraulic conductivity in a fibrosarcoma.

Convective transport of therapeutic agents in solid tumors can be improved through intratumoral infusion. To optimize the convection, we investigated the dependence of the hydraulic conductivity on tissue deformation induced by interstitial fluid pressure gradient during the infusion. Two experimental systems were used in the investigation: 1) one-dimensional perfusion through tumor slices and ...

Measuring infiltration rate and hydraulic conductivity in a dry well in a thin overburden

IInfiltration rate and hydraulic conductivity are immensely important parameters for evaluating the hydrology of subsurface environments. Specifically, in disposal wells schemes and in artificial recharge plans both properties must be correctly assessed to better analyze the performance of these installations. In a new research, tanker water and rainfall runoff were injected into a 22.5 m deep ...

The hydraulic conductivity of MatrigelTM

In this study, we measured the specific hydraulic conductivity (K) of MatrigelTM at 1% and 2% concentrations as a function of perfusion pressure (0 to 100 mmHg) and compared the results to predictions from two models: a fiber matrix model that predicted K of the gel based upon its composition, and a biphasic model that predicted changes in K caused by pressure induced compaction of the gels. Th...
